Mission Statement: holistic balance, integration of Chinese and Western medicine, coordinated multi‑disciplinary management, and precise intervention
About the Center: The Allergy Department (Allergic Diseases Diagnosis and Treatment Center) of The Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University is a provincial key specialty in allergy and immunology in South China, integrating medical care, teaching, research, prevention, and public health education. Leveraging the comprehensive disciplinary strength of Sun Yat-sen University and the hospital’s platform as a national high‑level medical center, the Allergy Center adheres to the treatment philosophy of "holistic balance, integration of Chinese and Western medicine, coordinated multi‑disciplinary management, and precise intervention."
It has brought together renowned experts and young talents from ten clinical departments related to allergic diseases—including Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Pediatrics, Dermatology, Respiratory Medicine, Gastroenterology, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Psychiatry/Psychology, and Ophthalmology—dedicated to providing comprehensive, personalized, and high‑quality diagnosis and treatment for patients with complex, difficult‑to‑treat, and severe allergic conditions, while leading disciplinary development in the region and across the country. The Center is not only a key clinical specialty construction unit for Allergy in Guangdong Province, but also the only allergy center in China selected for the national "Flagship Department" project in integrated Chinese and Western medicine. It serves as the hosting institution for the Guangdong Society of Allergology, the Allergy Branch of Guangdong Medical Doctor Association, the Allergy Expert Committee of Guangdong Pharmaceutical Association, the Allergy Branch of Guangdong Health Education and Promotion Association, the Allergic Diseases Committee of Guangdong Research‑Oriented Hospital Society, and the Allergy Nursing Branch of Guangdong Nurses Association.
Additionally, it undertakes responsibilities as a national continuing medical education base and a standardized training base for resident and specialist physicians. The Allergy Center has been ranked 10th nationally in the Fudan Specialty Rankings for three consecutive years (2022‑2024). Guided by clinical needs, driven by technological innovation, and rooted in talent development, the Center has established a full‑chain innovation system spanning "basic research – clinical translation – community prevention," aiming to address the growing burden of allergic diseases and enhance China’s international influence in this field.
